SMBE Code of Conduct
Attendees are expected to adhere to SMBE's Code of Conduct.
SMBE is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and productive environment for all members. Accordingly, the Society strictly prohibits all forms of discrimination and harassment among members, volunteers, staff, and participants in any SMBE-related activity. This includes, but is not limited to, Society events (whether online or in person), journal correspondence, and interactions on social media.
Behavior that undermines the integrity of intellectual discourse is incompatible with the values of the Society and constitutes a barrier to scientific progress; such behavior will not be tolerated. Unacceptable conduct includes, but is not limited to, harassment, stalking, belittling, discrimination, bullying or intimidation, assault, trolling, and retaliation (see the link above for definitions).
Misconduct based on gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical appearance, race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, or any other protected or descriptive characteristic is strictly prohibited.
Any SMBE member, or anyone participating in an SMBE-sponsored activity, who experiences or witnesses harmful behavior or a potential violation of this Code is encouraged to report it to the Safe Behavior Officer at safeconferences@gmail.com, or in person to the designated on-site safety officer.
